From network security to backend engineering.

7 years in software, following 3 years in network security.

I am a backend engineer based in Muscat, Oman. Most of my work is in Node.js and TypeScript, with a focus on payments, trading, wallets and the services that keep them running.

I started in network security in 2016, working with firewalls, intrusion detection and endpoint protection. In 2019 I joined Zarban as a Backend Developer, building APIs, databases and real-time features for web and mobile products. In the final months there, I also advised the team on backend architecture and delivery.

From 2021 to 2024, I worked as a Senior Backend Engineer at Part Software Group. I designed the company-wide API gateway and built marketplace, container management, wallet and payment services for Shahab. Alongside that work, I conducted more than 250 technical interviews and taught backend development to about 100 engineers at Part College.

At Dana Blockchain Solutions, from 2024 to 2026, I led a ten-person team delivering BitBaax, TetherBaax and Goldmim. I was responsible for architecture and production delivery, and wrote core services for authentication, trading, wallets, treasury and blockchain integration. BitBaax and TetherBaax used a shared exchange core; Goldmim had its own core for digital balances and physical gold.

I have also taken on independent projects alongside my full-time roles since 2019. These include telecom and logistics platforms, online stores, and the web payment and subscription system for StoryFont. My latest commerce project brings together a Next.js storefront, a React admin console and a Node.js backend with Stripe payments.

In 2026 I co-founded FitYar with a frontend engineer. I handle the backend, infrastructure and GPT integration for its fitness and nutrition coach. Workout and nutrition tracking run independently of the model.

    Independent Full-Stack Engineer

    I build and maintain client products alongside my full-time roles, from backend services to the user interface and deployment.

    • Built platforms for digital goods, freight and customs, fiber-optic subscriptions, and online commerce. Delivered the web payment and subscription system for StoryFont, an app with more than a million active users.
    • Built the Commerce Platform as the sole engineer: a Next.js storefront, React admin console and Node.js backend covering Stripe checkout, inventory, delivery, returns and refunds.
    • Co-founded FitYar with a frontend engineer. I handle the backend, infrastructure and GPT integration for coaching, with workout tracking, nutrition logging and a 400+ exercise library.
    • Design the data models, APIs and integrations, and handle infrastructure, deployment and maintenance for the client systems I build.

    Technical Lead

    Led a ten-person engineering team and reported to the CEO. Responsible for architecture, delivery and infrastructure across three fintech platforms.

    • Led delivery of BitBaax, TetherBaax and Goldmim, with live custody of customer assets. BitBaax and TetherBaax shared an exchange core; Goldmim used an independent core for physical and digital gold.
    • Set technical direction for backend, frontend and QA engineers. Reviewed designs and production changes, and ran infrastructure and CI/CD.
    • Designed a reusable exchange core with about 26 domain modules, using Clean Architecture, domain-driven design and event-driven messaging with RabbitMQ, MQTT and WebSocket.
    • Built authentication, the trade engine, wallet management, treasury, asset management and blockchain integration.
    • Built deposit and withdrawal services for Ethereum, BSC, Bitcoin and Tron. They monitored about 25 million mainnet transactions per day. The internal ingestion and validation pipeline reached 40,000 transactions per second in load tests.
    • Designed custody around separate hot and cold wallets, multi-sig Safe contracts and HashiCorp Vault, with protections against double-spend and chain reorganizations.
    • Built and operated the GitLab CI pipeline for linting, unit and end-to-end tests, security scans and deployment. Its failure rate fell from about 40% to 15% across 950 runs.

What do you do?
I am Mohammad Zafardoost, a senior backend engineer in Muscat, Oman. I work mainly in Node.js and TypeScript, building distributed systems for payments, trading, wallets and platform infrastructure.
What was your most recent full-time role?
I was Technical Lead at Dana Blockchain Solutions from June 2024 to August 2026. I led ten engineers and was responsible for the architecture, delivery and infrastructure of BitBaax, TetherBaax and Goldmim. I also continue independent product work and co-founded FitYar.
Which technologies do you work with?
My main backend tools are Node.js and TypeScript. I use PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis for data; RabbitMQ, MQTT and WebSocket for messaging; and Docker, Kubernetes and GitLab CI for delivery. I also build React and Next.js interfaces and integrate GPT models into products.

The portfolio covers sixteen engineering projects, including exchanges, wallets, a company-wide API gateway, telecom and logistics systems, and commerce products.
